HOW TO INSPECT SPLINES ON WIRE WHEELS AND HUBS

First remove a wheel, then clean the splines on the inside of the wheel and on the hub. Clean until you are down to shiny metal. Look at the splines of both the hub and the wheel, each individual spline should have a flat spot on the top. If it is gone and you have a knife edge, you should replace the worn parts. This check should be done to all wheels and hubs regularly. When replacing the wheels be sure to grease the splines, do this twice a year to avoid rust and help reduce wear to the splines.
